The Philippines’ confirmed COVID-19 cases were at 1,532 as of July, down 70% compared to the same period last year, according to the Department of Health (DoH) on Friday, adding that it continues to monitor the disease through its regional counterparts.
In a release, the DoH said a total of 1,532 confirmed cases were logged from Jan. 4 to July 11, a sharp decline from the 5,070 cases reported during the same period in 2025.
The health department said it continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation through its regional offices and local government partners. It also continues to conduct disease surveillance and response mechanisms nationwide.
“COVID-19 may present without symptoms or as a mild to severe respiratory illness,” DoH said.
Among the common symptoms are fever, chills, sore throat, cough, a runny or clogged nose, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, shortness of breath, and nausea. Symptoms may also include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of or changes in taste or smell.
Although cases remain low, the DoH continues to urge the public to practice simple health habits to prevent the spread of the virus and other respiratory illnesses. These include handwashing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and maintaining proper hygiene.
“Individuals experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness are advised to seek medical consultation at the nearest health center or healthcare facility and follow appropriate health measures to prevent further transmission,” the DoH said.
As of Jan. 8, the country had reported 4.1 million COVID-19 cases, with total deaths standing at 66,864. During its peak, the disease forced the country to undergo various forms of community quarantine for over a year and overwhelmed the public health system. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
