De La Salle University (DLSU) BS-MS Mechanical Engineering student Dona Beatrix Marabe was recently named as one of the 40 Global Emerging Space Leaders by the space advocacy organization International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
For her research on space technologies, Ms. Marabe was selected from a pool of over 300 students and young professionals worldwide.
She will be accepting the award and presenting her research on the following topics at the IAF International Astro nautical Congress in Antalya Türkiye on Oct. 5-9: Biomimetic Penguin Feather Inspired Surface Textures for Passive Ice Accretion Mitigation and Flow Control in Aerospace; Structures Development and Flight Validation of a Novel Non Pyrotechnic Pneumatic Deployment Mechanism for Amateur Rocketry in a Non-Spacefaring Nation; and Advancing Aerospace Interest in an Emerging Space Nation Through Student-Led Initiatives: A Philippine University Case Study.
Last year, Ms. Marabe was also recognized by the IAF as a Young Pioneer in Aerospace Engineering, after leading the team that built and launched DLSU’s first rocket and can satellite, and presenting her own ultrasonic technology for spacesuit wearables.
The International Astronautical Congress sees this year’s event as the largest in its history, with over 8,300 abstracts received. From this pool, 2,846 were selected for oral presentation and 1,773 for interactive presentation.
The University said Ms. Marabe’s achievement highlights its commitment to pursue UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the following SDG areas: 4 (Quality Education), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
