Customs collections reach P93 billion in September

THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) said it collected P93.339 billion in September, surpassing its target for the month and bringing the agency closer to its full-year collection goal.

BoC’s collections last month exceeded its P89.184-billion target by 4.7% or P4.155 billion. It was also 16.3% or P13.056 billion higher than its haul in the same month a year ago.

This brought the bureau’s collections to a record P757.406 billion in the first nine months, exceeding its P748.494-billion target for the period by 1.2% or P8.913 billion.

Collections in the January-to-September period were also 7.9% or P55.735 billion higher than a year earlier.

As of end-September, BoC’s collections already represented 74.9% of the P1.011-trillion target for the year.

BoC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno said the agency is on track to reach its full-year collection target. “The P1-trillion goal is ambitious, but our performance shows that we are on the right track.”

The BoC attributed the revenue growth to strengthened monitoring and collection measures, improved valuation and assessment, intensified enforcement against smuggling and other forms of revenue leakage, and continuing efforts to modernize customs processes.

“With three months remaining in 2026, the BoC is focused on sustaining its momentum toward its full-year revenue goal. For the Bureau, the path toward the P1-trillion mark will ultimately be measured not by speculation, but by actual collections and results,” it said. — Justine Irish DP. Tabile
