AWS sees continued growth in vibe coding in PHL

Vibe coding is expected to continue gaining traction among Philippine developers and enterprises as artificial intelligence (AI) lowers the barriers to software development, according to Amazon Web Services (AWS), adding that it offers tools to help ensure that AI-generated applications meet corporate, security and enterprise standards. Vibe coding uses the power of AI to generate software code based on instructions or prompts provided in natural language.

Vibe coding will continue to grow and we see that as an amazing thing,” Joel H. Garcia, head of technology for ASEAN at AWS, told reporters on the sidelines of an AWS media workshop. He added that the growth is a good thing, as vibe coding makes it easier to turn an idea into a tangible software application.

Vibe coding also provides a low barrier to entry and allows developers to quickly generate code using natural language, allowing enterprises or developers to turn an application idea into reality.

However, Mr. Garcia said organizations that intend to deploy applications into production need more than what vibe coding provides, including a structured approach to software development and considerations for design, security and penetration testing.

This is where Kiro helps those organizations come up from an idea of agentic and just producing code to something that they can actually deploy into production,” he said.

During the media workshop, BusinessWorld had a first-hand experience with Kiro, as AWS demonstrated how easily an application can be developed using the platform’s Vibe Code mode and how firms can leverage the more advanced Spec mode to tailor applications to meet industry-specific requirements.

On matters of security, Mr. Garcia said spec-driven development provides specific guardrails and steering files that guide AI to generate code and applications that meet corporate, security and enterprise standards, while human developers remain involved to review, steer and iterate on the AI-generated output to ensure high-quality results.
